Now that I’ve committed myself to ‘le walk’ as I call it, I’ve discovered something very interesting about raising money for charitable causes. Some people are more interested in the cause, the ‘why’ you are raising funds and others are concerned with the ‘what’ or the effects as I call it here.
The ALS challenge was a great example of that. People were happy to dump a bucket of ice water over their heads even though a great deal of them hadn’t heard of ALS and didn’t contribute a penny to the cause. Well at least it got their attention.
Looks like there’s no wrong or right side to this argument as long as the objective is met, I’m not even sure which side of the fence I’m on but I’ll have plenty of time to think about it on ‘le walk’.
I guess it’s natural not to want to deal with the unpleasantness of the cause as long as the entertainment is distracting enough but which is more important? When Comic Relief is on TV it is difficult watching the footage of children dying from malaria which is why Stephen Hawkins in a wheelchair is a welcome diversion.
Well if he’s happy to do it for a worthy cause then I have no problem ‘doing my bit’.
